A new survey claims bipartisan support, for a statewide smoking ban. We've all heard politics makes strange bedfellows; so apparently, does support for a statewide indoor smoking ban, even one that includes taverns. The Mellman Group, a Democrat oriented polling firm, teamed with Republican polling firm Public Opinion Strategies. The survey found that 73% of Democrats, 61% of Independents and 57% or Republicans would support such a law. "While support is certainly somewhat less strong among Republicans, it's important to note that there's still a 16 point majority among Republicans on this issue," noted Nathan Henry with the Mellman Group. "There's very few things that Democrats and Republican agree on these days," said Patrick Lanne with Public Opinion Strategies. "The one thing that they do agree on is public health."
The groups surveyed 500 Wisconsin voters by phone, from February 17-19. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4%.
