A proposal to raise Wisconsin's beer tax for the first time in 38 years isn't getting much support at the Capitol. Only two legislators have agreed to co-sponsor the bill from Madison Democrat Terese Berceau.
Still, Berceau says she's not giving up on the idea. She says so many organizations concerned with alcohol abuse could benefit from the money and have come out in support of the bill.
Berceau wants to increase the tax by about 15 cents a six pack and use the revenue for treatment and prevention of alcohol abuse. Despite the lack of support from her colleagues, Berceau plans to formally introduce the bill this week.
