Brewers can't strike deal at trade deadline

It wasn't for a lack of effort, but the Milwaukee Brewers let the Major League Baseball trade deadline come and go without a deal.

The Brewers had an offer on the table to the Texas Rangers for reliever Eric Gagne, but the Rangers sent him to Boston after the veteran closer dropped his no-trade clause to that team in exchange for the Red Sox guaranteeing an additional $ 2.5-million to cover incentives in his contract.

The Brewers were ffering outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr., left-handed pitcher Zach Jackson (9-7, 4.69 ERA at Class AAA Nashville) and another minor league player for Gagne.

Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin said not getting Gagne was softened by the fact that they were able to acquire reliever Scott Linebrink earlier.

Packers sloppy practice leaves McCarthy fuming

Mike McCarthy Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy wasn't overly happy after last night's practice session at historic Old City Stadium in Green Bay.

McCarthy enjoyed the environment for the event, but a poor 2-minute drill at the end of practice was filled with penalty flags for false starts.  That left the coach in a sour mood.

The Packers don't practice today, under the coaches new practice format.

Thieves take radioactive device

Adams County officials are looking for a radioactive canister and for the person who stole it from a construction site.

Someone broke into a construction trailer in the Adams County town of Rome. They stole briefcases, construction tools and a canister that can be very dangerous. It contains radioactive material.

Jane Grabarski, Adams County Emergency Management Director, says the canister is marked with the hazardous material sign and the words Master Minder. If anyone comes across this container call police, don't pick it up.

The device is used in construction to check the integrity of welded joints. It belongs to the Weldsonix Company doing work on an oil pipeline in Adams County.

Grabarski says they're not sure if the thief knew what they were getting when they stole the radioactive device.

The contents are safe as long as the container remains in tact but Grabarski says they wouldn't know until tested if the thief or thieves somehow damaged the aluminum canister.
