A proposal to end Wisconsin's moratorium on nuclear power plant constructions is advancing in the Legislature.
The Assembly Energy Committee approved the bill this week on a bi-partisan 8-2 vote. State Representative Phil Montgomery (R-Green Bay), the author of the measure, says the moratorium was passed 25 years ago when there were questions about what to do with radioactive waste. He says those questions have been answered, with a repository in the works for spent nuclear fuel.
The Green Bay Republican says nuclear is the only source of energy large enough to help reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil.
