Lac Du Flambeau's tribal president has responded to a take over of a portion of the tribal center by a political faction on the reservation. There has been a vocal opposition group on the reservation lately, concerned about the tribe's financial status. Tribal president Vicki Doud says there has been a faction against her since she was elected.
"I don't know if it's just because I'm a woman or because I'm honest," says Doud.
She claims "underhanded deals" occurred during Tom Maulson's administration. Maulson is a former tribal president and current council member who has been critical of Doud.
Ronda Snow is a spokesperson for the group in the building, and says they want immediate government reform, with federal oversight. She says the group wants to freeze all bank accounts and tribal assets until proper audits are completed.
The group entered the tribal center about 2 A.M. Tuesday.
