Now that snowstorms are unlikely in most of the state, it's time to prepare for other kinds of severe weather.
The State of Wisconsin wants everyone to take advantage of Wisconsin Tornado & Severe Weather Awareness Week , and remind ourselves of the dangers associated with tornadoes, thunderstorms, hail and don't forget about flooding.
"This is our annual campaign to remind citizens about severe weather and the threat of tornadoes and remind them of what they need to do when severe weather strikes."
Lori Getter with Wisconsin Emergency Management says her best advice for us is to have a plan, and stay informed. She says it's wise to pay attention to the local weather forecast and have a NOAA weather radio at home and while you're out and about. Getter says advance warning gives you an opportunity to go to your safe zone.
"Everyone in your family should know where you should go or what you should do, whether you're at work or you're at school or at home. To practice that, Thursday is our statewide tornado drill. And this is a reminder to talk about where you would go and what you would do in protecting your family."
And, know the difference between a Watch and a Warning .
" Watch means watch the sky, weather conditions are favorable. Warning means a tornado has been sighted; take cover immediately."
Getter says, when you hear the sirens, that is not the time to look outside.
