After all the talk about Iraq this week, one Wisconsin congressman says there's still a missing element. Congressman Ron Kind says he's seen little of what's most important for Iraq's long term stability — meaningful political reconciliation. "Over the last two weeks, we've seen Shia upon Shia clash," said Kind . "It's sectarian strife, and our military right now are being asked to referee a civil war, the worst possible situation we want to put our troops in."
The La Crosse Democrat says it's time for what he calls "responsible redeployment" of American forces. "Not an immediate withdrawal, which is impossible, but coupled with a huge diplomatic surge, which has yet to take place, because this administration still thinks we can will this militarily." Kind says any diplomatic effort will have to involve Iran, because trying to ignore or isolate the government in Tehran is "dangerous and naive."
