State legislators are being urged to spend more money on mass transit.
It's the way to go with gas prices going through the roof, according to Bruce Speight with the Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group. He says transportation is the second highest cost for many families, next to housing…and rising prices at the pump are only making it harder for people to get by. Speight says giving those people options just improves the ability of families to save money.
A study by the group found transit systems in Madison and Milwaukee saved 1.2 million gallons of oil and $3 million that would have otherwise been spent on gas.
