Crime witness protection may be returning to Milwaukee. We see it on TV shows like Law and Order and CSI , but witness protection doesn't really exist in Milwaukee, or anywhere in Wisconsin, according to state Attorney General, J.B. Van Hollen . A witness-protection program offered by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office fell victim to state budget cuts several years ago, and Van Hollen says they're attempting a pilot program. Van Hollen says Milwaukee County County D.A. John Chisholm has told him that protecting witnesses is the single most important thing the criminal justice system could do, to help reduce violent crime.
