A budget repair bill being acted on by state lawmakers this week contains a bombshell for local governments, according to Rich Eggleston of the Wisconsin Alliance of Cities.
Eggleston says it includes a property tax exemption that could remove tens of millions of dollars from local tax rolls. The exemption involves housing owned by non-profit organizations. He says the move would have tremendous implications for local governments.
Eggleston says the provision has nothing to do with erasing the state budget deficit.
