A Racine homeowner had a brief encounter with danger Friday morning, thanks to what his dog found in the backyard. Police were called to a home on the city's near southwest side after a man reported a gun his dog had started chewing on in the backyard had discharged when he dropped it while bringing it inside. Sergeant Bernie Kupper says the man didnt have a solid grip on the gun because he did not want to to get his fingerprints on it — just like with C-S-I. The 25-caliber handgun hit the ground and one bullet bounced off a door and into the ceiling. It turns out the gun was tossed by a man who was chased by police in that neighborhood Thursday night, and later jailed on a probation hold, among other things.
