Time is running out for Wisconsinites to claim an economic stimulus payment.
Several thousand Wisconsin residents who qualify for the stimulus money still haven't filed to receive a payment. IRS spokesman Christopher Miller says they believe roughly 62,000 people who can claim the benefit haven't taken the necessary steps to do so.
Miller says all they need to do is file a 2007 income tax return before October 15th. Doing so can result in an extra $300 to $600 for many of them.
Miller says there are a variety of likely reasons why many people still haven't filed, such as not knowing about it or thinking they don't qualify for a payment. However, he says they should at least check to make sure.
Information on filing is available online or at local taxpayer assistance centers.
