Officials in Fond du Lac County are investigating a Jane Doe homicide, after hunters found the decomposing body of a woman in a ravine over the weekend. Sheriff Mick Fink says there are no missing persons reported in the area and they believe the body was dumped there.
The body was that of a female that police believe is Caucasian. Investigators have been unable to determine the age or identity of the victim at this time. Fink says the death was not a suicide and this is being treated as a homicide investigation.
Fink says if the hunters who discovered the body had gone through on a snowy day they probably wouldn't have seen the remains.
Four years ago West Bend teen Katie Gensmer was stabbed to death and left off the New Fane Hiking Trail, which is in the same general area of the County. Her murderer, David Brace, was found with the public's help. The Sheriff is again hopeful a tip from the public will help to identify the victim and her killer.
