Wausau police are launching a new crime-fighting initiative to go after drug dealers.
Citizens Against Drug Dealers will pay for information leading to an arrest and is similar to the popular Crimestoppers program. Wausau police Chief Jeff Hardel says it provides law enforcement with valuable information that could get them closer to stopping a major drug dealer.
Hardel says money can go a long way in helping police fight drugs. He says a reward will influence people to come forward who normally would not consider doing so.
Hardel says local community leaders came up with the program as a solution to a series of drug-related robberies over the past year.
Police have set up a confidential tip line for information. They will determine the reward amount on a case-by-case basis.
