June is a "second season" for car-deer collisions in Wisconsin. The DOT's Dennis Hughes says we all know car deer collisions peak in October and November. Less well known is the danger this time of year, with deer on the move for a variety of reasons, and miles driven by drivers also increasing.
So, says Hughes, pay attention out there. "There's some deer crossing signs out there, they're there for a reason. They tend to reflect where bad things have happened in the past," notes Hughes. "Certainly we always try to encourage people to wear a seatbelt, because in the event of a collision with anything, a seatbelt really can save your life."
Hughes says June is usually the worst or second worst month for motorist injuries related to deer crashes. Another concern: motorcyclists, who need to especially cautious when riding in deer country.
