Brewers Lose At Wrigley

The Cubs took 3 of 4 games from the Brewers with an 8-2 win on Sunday at Wrigley Field.

Once again the Brewers pitchign was horrible as starter Mike Burns gave up 9 hits and 7 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.  Derek Lee and Jake Fox each hit homers in the win for the Cubs.  Prince Fielder went deep for Milwaukee with his 22nd round tripper of the season.  Ted Lilly was the winner for the Cubs.

After the game left fielder Ryan Braun said the Cubs outplayed the Brewers in every aspect of the game.  Braun said that the team had to play well during the final week of the first half of the season to prove to GM Doug Melvin that he should go out and get the team some help to make a push for the postseason.

The Brewers will take today off before opening up a six game homestand with 3 against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.  Yovani Gallardo gets the start for the Crew on Tuesday while St. Louis counters with Adam Wainwright.

Deer killing ruling prompts backlash

Outrage after charges were dropped against two Waupaca County men who were accused of running down deer with their snowmobiles could prompt a change in state law.

A judge has dismissed animal cruelty charges against two of the three accused men, after attorneys argued they were simply hunting the deer. Charges against the third defendant could also be dropped.

State Representative Dean Kaufert says it's a slap in the face to all legitimate hunters to equate running down deer with a snowmobile to legitimate hunting.

The Neenah Republican plans to introduce a bill that would allow animal cruelty charges if someone is not participating in legitimate and recognized methods of hunting.

Kaufert says he's pushing for the change after many constituents approached him following the dropped charges. He says people are upset and want to make sure it can't happen again.

Rory and Robbie Kuenzi, along with Nicholas Hermes, do face additional charges in the case.

Lawmaker wants change in report filing

Legislation being introduced at the Capitol would restore the ability of candidates to file physical campaign reports.

The state began using an electronic filing system for campaign finance reports earlier this year, which is now the only option available to candidates for the Legislature or statewide offices. State Senator Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) says it's very complex and he's worried it will discourage potential candidates who may have a hard time understanding the system.

Hansen is co-sponsoring legislation that would return the option of filing paper or electronic versions of campaign finance reports.

Officials with the Government Accountability Board have said staff is available to assist candidates who are having a hard time. Hansen says paper reports should be allowed, at least until the system is easier to understand.

If even one candidate is lost because the system is too complex, Hansen says that's too much.

Club offers adaptive rowing

Disabilities need not keep people off Madison's lakes this summer, thanks to a first-ever partnership program between UW-Madison's Department of Kinesiology and the Mendota Rowing Club . "I think rowing can pay a key piece in fitness and physical activity and overall health promotion, including people with disabilities," says the club's coordinator of the Adaptive Rowing Summer Course, Cayte Anderson.

Brad Dakan of Madison is one of the rowers in the course. "I'm interested in all different kinds of sports," says Daken. "I didn't even know it (rowing) was possible. I have a spinal cord injury and I can't use my legs, and in rowing, the major part is your legs. Once I found out they could modify it to where I could just use my arms, I was all for it."

Anderson says the rowing shells are modified by the addition of small outriggers and some stationary seating. She says several of the rowers are "highly competitive," and could easily take their rowing skills to the Paralympics.
