Brewers struggle heading to all-star break

The Milwaukee Brewers made the game respectable with a comeback in the final innings, but they still fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 in the final game before the all-star break.  The Brewers dropped 2 of 3 to the Dodgers in the series and have dropped 8 of their last 11 overall.

Yovani Gallardo took the loss and fell to 1-4 in his last 5 starts.  But he's had little run support with the Brewers scoring just 7-runs in his last 5 appearances.

The Brewers scored in the 7th & 8th innings, but saw a 9th inning rally fall short.

Depending on the outcome of the Sunday night game between the Cardinals and Cubs at Wrigley Field, the Brewers will head into the all-star break trailing St. Louis by at least 2-games.  If the Cardinals win, the Brewers will fall 2 1/2 back going into the break.

Hoffman added to NL All-Star roster

Baseball's all-time saves leader, Trevor Hoffman will be making his 7th all-star appearance afterall.  The Brewers closer was named to the National League squad early today after Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton had to back out because of an irritated nerve in his right toe.

Hoffman is tied for fourth in the NL with 20 saves to go along with his 2.05 ERA.

Hoffman becomes the 3rd Brewer scheduled to play for the National League in Tuesday night's all-star game in St. Louis.  Ryan Braun will start in left field and Prince Fielder will play as a reserve.  Fielder will also participate in Monday's home run derby.

Stricker wins John Deere Classic

Madison's Steve Stricker played 36 holes of excellent golf on Sunday to capture the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic.

After a 3-under par 68 in round 3 to start the day, Stricker finished with a 7-under par 64, good for his second win on the PGA Tour this year and the sixth overall.  Stricker also has momentum heading into this week's British Open.

Stricker's 20-under par total was 3-shots better than Zach Johnson, Brandt Snedeker and Brett Quigley, who all finished at 17-under par.  Quiqley's total earned him a spot in this week's British Open.

Stricker started the day three shots off the lead after moving into second place on Saturday with a 10-under par 61, which tied the course record set by fellow Wisconsin native J.P. Hayes, who won the 2002 title.

His best shot camme on the par-4 6th hole in the final round, when his 98-yard approach shot spun back into the hole for an eagle.
