Brakes on Cash for Clunkers

It looks like the brakes have been hit on the Gas for Guzzlers car program. The brand new program that allows drivers to trade in less fuel efficient cars to dealers has been suspended or has it?

As of early Friday morning, Bill Sepic, President of the Wisconsin Auto and Truck Dealers Association , says he's heard conflicting reports that the program has been suspended or is just being reviewed.

The program gives $4,500 tax free credit to participating consumers. The word from Washington is the money has dried up from higher than anticipated response.
WATDA's understanding is Cash for Clunkers deals made before midnight Thursday to Friday morning can be honored.

Other reports say the White House is looking at ways to extend funding for the Clunkers program.

Suppan to the DL

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed right handed pitcher Jeff Suppan on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique, suffered while swinging the bat in his last start against Washington on Tuesday.

The Brewers have yet to announce a corresponding roster move, but there's a good chance they'll recall right handed pitcher Mike Burns, who was sent down recently after going 2-3 with a 6.30 ERA in seven games (5 starts).

Suppan may miss just one start because of off days.

Brewers' Hall headed for AAA Nashville

Milwaukee Brewers reserve infielder Bill Hall has volunteered to be optioned to Class AAA Nashville to work on his swing.  Hall is hitting just .201 with 5 home runs and 20 rbi's this season.

Hall was asked by the Brewers to go down to the minors just before the All-Star break, but because of his service time in the Majors, Hall had the right to refuse the assignment and he did.  But that was then and this is now.  Now, Hall's playing time has literally vanished and the only way he's going to get it back is to fix his offensive problems in the minors first.

Hall's large salary is the only thing that's still keeping him on the Brewers roster.  He's earning $6.8-million this year and will earn $8.4-million in 2010, the final year of his four year contract with the Brewers.

Hall is being replaced on the roster by infielder Hernan Iribarren from Nashville.

Brewers win 2nd straight, split with Washington

The Milwaukee Brewers are excited about their 2-game win streak after Thursday's 7-3 win over the Washington Nationals at Miller Park.  It's the first time the Brewers won back to back games since June 29-30 against the New York Mets.

Yovani Gallardo allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings of work.  Gallardo's 11 strikeouts were 1-short of his career high.  The only blemmish for Gallardo is the 3-run homer he surrendered to Ryan Zimmerman in the 4th.

Prince Fielder clubbed his 25th homer of the season and Craig Counsell, not known for his power, clubbed his 4th home run this season to lead the Brewers.  The victory allowed the Brewers to climb back to .500 at 51-51.

The Brewers also won a day game at Miller Park for the first time since July 4 in Chicago.  They're 12-22 in days games and have the lowest winning percentage (.353) in the majors.

The Brewers now open a 9-game road trip, starting tonight in San Diego.

Chrysler return to Kenosha unlikely

Governor Jim Doyle doubts Chrysler will restart operations in Wisconsin.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the governor said it is "unlikely that Chrysler will exercise its option to purchase the Kenosha car-engine plant."

Doyle calls the news disappointing. Although, he also admits it's not a surprise.

In his statement, the governor says he and his team have had "numerous" discussions with Chrysler and Fiat officials. Doyle says the CEO of Fiat has committed to examining the Kenosha plant for future opportunities with the company.
