Bucks acquire Delfino from Toronto

The Milwaukee Bucks completed a trade that sent forward Amir Johnson and guard Sonny Weems to the Toronto Raptors for small forward Carlos Delfino and point guard Roko Ukic.

Delfino, who is the main player in this deal, played three seasons with the Detroit Pistons and one with Toronto before going to Russia last season.  He average 10.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 26 league games with BC Khimki.  Toronto had to sign Delfino before they could trade him.  He receives a three-year deal worth $3.5-million per season.

The Bucks now have first round pick Brandon Jennings, veteran Luke Ridnour and Ukic in the mix at point guard.  Restricted free agent Ramon Sessions also has yet to receive an offer from any other NBA team.

Johnson leads State Open at halfway mark

Neil Johnson of River Falls fired a 2-under par 70 to take a 4-shot lead at the halfway mark of the Wisconsin State Open at Blackwolf Run in Kohler.

Johnson holds a 4-shot lead on Tyler Obermueller, who won the State Amateur last month.

First-round leader and defending champion Ryan Helminen of Appleton, struggled with a 77 in round two.  He drops into a tie for third with Brian Brodell and Daniel Woltman.  Mario Tiziani is another shot back and six shots off the lead.

The State Open wraps up with a 36-hole final today.

Brewers promote 2008 1st round pick

The Milwaukee Brewers Brett Lawriemoved 2008 first-round draft pick Brett Lawrie from Class “A” Wisconsin to Class “AA” Huntsville.  The move will allow the Brewers to use Lawrie as the designated hitter for 10 days prior to his leaving for World Cup play for Team Canada.

The 19 year old Lawrie was hitting .274 in 105 games with the Timber Rattlers.  He has 18 doubles, 5 triples, 13 home runs and 65 runs batted in.  Lawrie also stole 19 bases.

Brewers lose another to lowly Pirates

Prior to the Milwaukee Brewers coming to town, the Pittsburg Pirates had lost 18 of 22 games and had dropped seven consecutive series during that stretch.  Just like most teams that have matched up against the Brewers in the second half, their problems seem to go away in a hurry.

Pirates starter Ross Ohlendorf held the Brewers in check on Tuesday night, working 7 innings in the Pirates 5-2 victory.  Ohlendorf allowed just 1 run on 5 hits with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Manny Parra took the loss, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits in 6-innings of work.  The Pirates, who had just 87 home runs on the season, hit three in the series opening win on Monday and two more last night.  The big blow was a 2-run shot off the bat of Lastings Milledge in the 5th.  Parra hung a 3-1 curve ball and Milledge made the deposit.

Milwaukee’s Prince Fielder clubbed his 32nd homer of the season in the loss.  The Brewers will send Yovani Gallardo to the mound tonight as they try to salvage the final game of the series and avoid a sweep.

Favre just can’t stay away

I knew it was coming, but I didn’t think it would be so soon.  Just three weeks after Brett Favre said no to Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress, he changed his mind and signed a 2-year, $25-million contract with the Vikings on Tuesday.  Favre even practiced for the first time and plans to play in the teams preseason game on Friday.

The news hit about mid-morning on Tuesday and it spread throughout the Brett Favre sportsworld like a wild fire.  Most of the Green Bay Packers players reacted with little interest, although they seemed happy that he found another place to play, even if it meant he’d signed with a division rival.  Some believed Favre’s motivation was sticking it to the Packers, which Favre denied at his news conference yesterday.
