A Republican state lawmaker is planning a run for Congress.
State Senator Dan Kapanke (R-La Crosse) says the decision to run for a seat in the state's third Congressional District came after meeting with residents across Western Wisconsin. He says their concerns about massive spending in Washington and who will be paying the bill raised his interest in running.
Democrat Ron Kind currently represents the district. Kapanke says they have many differences, and he's looking forward to a dialogue during the campaign.
Kapanke's announcement comes as the Democratic Party of Wisconsin has been questioning the possible use of his legislative staff and resources in organizing campaign-related forums. The Senator says they are working to address the issue and the Government Accountability Board is expected to take a closer look. If they find any wrong-doing, Kapanke says he's prepared to face any penalties.
Still, Kapanke says they did try to comply with all rules and regulations when organizing those forums and he's confident everything was done properly.
