Warnings about treacherous driving conditions

“Our message is, if you don’t have to travel don’t.”

Lori Getter with Wisconsin Emergency Management says it’s better to be safe than sorry. Light snow is expected in Western Wisconsin by about noon (on Tuesday), with heavier snowfall during the evening and overnight — around a half and inch an hour or more. Add high winds to the mix you get a blizzard.

Surprise dollars has MKE county employees skeptical

A labor official representing roads, parks and airport workers says morale for Milwaukee County workers is the lowest he’s ever seen in his 30 year career. Kurt Zunker, President of AFSCME Local 882, says workers are nervous about being laid off in light of a tight county budget.

“It (county budget) is like a house of cards, it’s going to blow up within a short time and there could 500, 600 more layoffs early next year,” says Zunker. [Read more...]

Vehicle in 4 homicides is found, dead man inside

It could be the end in the search for Tyrone Adair.

This morning the vehicle law enforcement had been seeking in connection with the Madison, and Town of Middleton homicides was found in the Town of Cottage Grove.

The GMC Acadia was parked on Natvig Road, next to an out-building, and the early investigation indicates it may have been in this location for several days.

Located inside the vehicle was a deceased adult male. [Read more...]

Alvarez to be inducted into Rose Bowl Hall of Fame

Barry AlvarezRose Bowl Game legends Barry Alvarez, Tom Hansen and John Hicks headline the 2009 Rose Bowl Hall of Fame class to be installed at the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Dec. 30, 2009.  The Hall of Fame was established in 1989 to honor members of the Rose Bowl Game family who have contributed to the history and excitement of the game, and those who embody the best of the passion, strength, tradition and honor associated with “The Granddaddy of Them All.”

Alvarez is currently the Athletic Director at Wisconsin.  He spent 16 seasons building a nationally well-respected program before retiring in 2005 to his current post.  Alvarez is the winningest coach in Wisconsin football history and is the only Big Ten coach to win Rose Bowl Games in back-to-back years (1999, 2000) and joins Ohio State’s Woody Hayes as the only Big Ten coach with at least three Rose Bowl Game wins.

Alvarez finished his career with 118 coaching wins, a Wisconsin record, an 8-3 mark in 11 career bowl games and garnered the 1993 National Coach of the Year and two Big Ten Coach of the Year awards.

Badgers’ Hughes is Big Ten Player of the Week

Trevon Hughes Wisconsin senior Trevon Hughes was named Big Ten Player of the Week, following his performances in a pair of wins over No. 6 Duke and Grambling State.

Hughes averaged 23.0 points per game last week, including a career-high 26 points in the Badgers upset win over Duke in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

This is Hughes’ first Player of the Week honor and Wisconsin’s first since Joe Krabbenhoft took home the accolade on Fe. 16, 2009.  He is the first UW guard to win the honor since Kammron Taylor on Jan. 15, 2007.  His 16.7 points per game average is tied for sixth in the Big Ten.
