Four killed in Blanchardville fire
A horrific start to the holidays in Blanchardville.
Four people were found dead after an early morning fire broke out at the Silver Dollar Saloon on Main Street. Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley says it was a major effort to contain the blaze, with emergency responders from multiple agencies providing assistance. [Read more...]
Mainstream media adopts social networking
Is your favorite radio station Twittering? Does your local newspaper have a Facebook page?Kathleen Culver with the UW School of Journalism & Mass Communication says newspapers, TV news – and even radio stations – have come up to speed, considering most popular social media sites didn’t even exist a few years ago. “I think mainstream media, newspapers in particular, are well aware today of a fact that they seemed to miss five years ago. Steelers throttle Packers defense in 37-36 win
The Green Bay Packers were building a defensive resume against teams like San Francisco, Detroit, Baltimore and Chicago, all teams that have been offensively challenged for much of the season. They entered Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh ranked 2nd overall, 2nd against the rush and 3rd against the pass.

DNR Secretary urges baiting & feeding ban
Baiting and feeding of deer, already restricted in Wisconsin, needs to go away altogether, in the view of DNR Secretary Matt Frank, who speaks for the agency. “We believe we should have a statewide ban on baiting and feeding of deer,” Frank told lawmakers at the state Capitol recently.
What’s the problem with baiting and feeding? Twofold, according to Frank, who says DNR wildlife staff believe it’s changing deer habits and affecting the deer hunt. “We have hunters who do bait and feed, or hunters who don’t, changing the deer movement, making deer more nocturnal, moving them onto lands that maybe other hunters can’t get to.
