Jon Leuer scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half and guard Jason Bohannon was the only other Wisconsin player to reach double figures with 10 points.

The loss ended the Badgers 6-game win streak and gave them their first Big Ten defeat this season.  Wisconsin has to rebound quickly.  They’ll return to Madison to host the 4th ranked Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday.

Cubillan leads Marquette to first Big East win

Jimmy Butler made two free throws with 7.5 seconds left and the Marquette Golden Eagles knocked off 12th ranked Georgetown 62-59 at the Bradley Center.  It’s the first Big East win (1-2 Big East – 10-5 overall) for the Golden Eagles.

Golden Eagles coach Buzz Williams said he doesn’t want to be known as a three point shooting team, but he probably doesn’t mind this morning that senior guard David Cubillan was a perfect 6 for 6 from 3-point range to finish with a team high 18 points.

Lazar Hayward added 12 points and 11 rebounds as Marquette avoided its first 0-3 start in Big East play and its first 0-3 start to a conference season since 1998-’99.

Georgetown fell to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in Big East play.  Marquette next travels to Villanova on Saturday.

Lawmakers push BPA ban

Baby bottles and non-spill sippy cups designed for children under the age of five could no longer contain the plastic hardening chemical Bisphenol-A, under legislation being considered by lawmakers at the Capitol.

State Representative Kelda Helen Roys (D-Madison) says the bill is designed to protect children from a chemical that some studies have shown can have a negative impact on the development of young children and infants. She says it mimics estrogen, and has been linked to a number of health problems in laboratory animals. [Read more...]
