Feingold gives his take on terror
A Wisconsin senator says the US needs a better approach to national security. Russ Feingold wants more “connecting of the dots,” throughout the government. Although he admits the FBI and CIA have done a better job communicating since 9/11, he emphasizes other agencies such as embassies and the State Department can also provide valuable intelligence.
Feingold’s comments come after a Nigerian passenger attempted to blow up a plane over Detroit on Christmas. The suspect, who smuggled explosives in his undergarments, was flagged on a terror watch list but granted airline access.
Meanwhile the Transportation Safety Administration is expanding the use of full body scanners at airports. Feingold supports the plan as long technology can assure privacy is not violated, a concern at the crux of the issue.

Since September 11th, US foreign policy has been focused too heavily on eliminating terrorism in individual countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan, according to Feingold.

The school was one of a handful of campuses nationwide that dealt with a large outbreak of the H1N1 flu virus from the first day of classes back in the fall, and there are concerns of another wave of cases as students return for the spring semester.

Quimby heads a Waterloo-based firm that tracks registration numbers, and he says December numbers were up 13-percent statewide. He says that’s likely due to many vehicle owners getting tired of repair bills with their old cars, so they had to look for new deals. [Read more...]
Getting help at the pump
With the decline of full service pumps at gas stations, many disabled drivers are finding it more and more difficult to refill their fuel tanks.
Julie Withers of Milwaukee, who is in a wheel chair and still drives, says it’s a constant concern for her. She says her daughters used to take care of the job before they left for college, but now she has to wait for them to come home or enlist the help of a friend just to get gas. [Read more...]
