A memorial service will be held Friday in Decorah Iowa for Ben Larson, the La Crosse native who died in a collapsed building in Haiti. The service will take place at Luther College, which the 25-year-old Larson attended before seeking a master’s degree at a seminary in Dubuque.
Wisconsin missionaries back from Haiti
Wisconsin missionaries and volunteers are still streaming home from Haiti, all with horror stories from the earthquake that hit a week ago. About a dozen La Crosse area residents are expected home today. They were three days into a week-long medical mission when the quake hit.

Several recent studies have shown drivers who send text messages from behind the wheel are at higher risk of being involved in a traffic accident. Packers’ Schneider reportedly heading for Seattle
According to an Internet report, Green Bay Packers director of football operations John Schneider has accepted an offer to become the new General Manager of the Seattle Seahawks.
ESPN.com says Schneider is expected to be introduced in Seattle on Wednesday. The network said the job came down to Schneider and New England personnel executive Floyd Reese, the former General Manager of the Tennessee Titans.
It’s not known how much authority Schneider will have over the total operation because new coach Pete Carroll is expected to have a hand in personnel decisions.
It’s Schneider’s second stint in Seattle after working there as director of player personnel under Mike Holmgren. He spent the last six seasons in Green Bay.
Badgers fall in top 25 polls
After splitting a pair of Big Ten road games last week, the Wisconsin Badgers fell from 13th to 18th in this weeks Associated Press Top 25 College Basketball Poll and from 16th to 19th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ poll.
Wisconsin (14-4, 4-2 Big Ten) will return to action Wednesday night to host Michigan, and then will face Penn State on Saturday at the Kohl Center.
