Badgers rebound in second half to beat Michigan

Trevon HughesIt wasn’t until more than halfway through the second half that the Wisconsin Badgers finally took a lead.   The 18th ranked Badgers went on to beat Michigan 54-48 at the Kohl Center. 

Trevon Hughes scored 20 points and Rob Wilson added a career-high 13 off the bench to lead the Badgers.  Hughes said at halftime they decided it was time to protect the home court.

The Badgers won despite hitting just 4 of their 24 three-point attempts.  Wisconsin improved to 15-4 overall and 5-2 in the Big Ten.  They’ll host Penn State on Saturday.

New self-funded BadgerCare plan

Governor Jim Doyle has unveiled a new health care plan designed to be self-sustaining. Currently more than 20,000 Wisconsinites are on a waiting list for the BadgerCare Plus Core Plan. Doyle says the new BadgerCare Plus Basic will provide minimum coverage for those people such as Mary Tree, an unemployed woman, who spoke at the morning press event.

Bucks’ Alexander headed for D-League

The Milwaukee Bucks have assigned second-year forward Joe Alexander to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Development League (D-League).

Alexander is meeting with the team today and will play in his first game on Friday night.

Alexander as drafted by the Bucks with the 8th overall selection in the 2008 NBA Draft.  He hasn’t played yet this season because of a strained right hamstring.  He appeared in 59 games as a rookie in 2008-09 and averaged 4.7 points a game last season.

Brewers get lefty Davis back in Milwaukee

Doug DavisMilwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said he wanted to sign to starting pitchers in the offseason and pending a physical for left hander Doug Davis, he will have pulled it off.

Davis agreed to a free-agent contract that’s a 1-year deal with a mutual option for a second season. 

Melvin tried to acquire Davis last season but couldn’t work out the details with the Arizona Diamondbacks.  [Read more...]

City reaches sexual harassment settlement

A deal settles a Madison sexual harassment suit. The City of Madison has reached a settlement with a former employee of the Overture Center for the Performing Arts. Monica Everson says she was groped and fondled up to 500 times by former Overture director Bob D’ Angelo. The settlement, which was made public Wednesday, awards Everson $90,000 in damages and her lawyers $145,000 to cover their fees and costs. In addition, Everson will resign from the city, which denies her allegations. She had been on disability layoff.
