Former Milwaukee Brewers’ ace Ben Sheets signed a 1-year, $10-million contract with the Oakland A’s.
Sheets has been plagued by injuries and didn’t pitch at all in the majors last season, recovering from elbow surgery. He held a pitching session for several scouts in Louisiana recently.

Milwaukee Bucks rookie point guard Brandon Jennings was selected to play in the 2010 T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam. The Rookie Challenge takes place Friday, February 12 at 8:00 p.m. (CT) in Dallas as part of the 2010 NBA All-Star weekend.
Jennings is one of nine rookies selected by assistant coaches throughout the league to participate in the Rookie Challenge.
Jennings has twice been honored as the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month and he currently leads the Bucks with 17.7 points per game and 6.3 assists per game. He leads all rookies in assists and ranks second amongst first-year players in scoring.
Joining Jennings on the Rookie team are Sacramento guard Tyreke Evans, Sacramento forward Omar Casspi, Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson, Detroit Pistons forward Jonas Jerebko, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jonny Flynn, Oklahoma City Thunder guard James Harden and San Antonio forward/center DeJuan Blair.
The Rookie team will take on a group of nine NBA sophomores.
The Bucks had a chance to knock off the Mavericks in Dallas last night, but Carlos Delfino missed a running 10-footer in the lane before the buzzer that would have won the game for Milwaukee. Instead, the Bucks suffered a 108-107 loss and fell to 5-18 on the road this season.
Bucks coach Scott Skiles said earlier this week that he thought his team would need to go 10-9 on the road going into last night’s game if they wished to make the post season playoffs. Now they’ll need to go 10-8 rest of the way.
The loss spoiled a career high performance by Bucks center Andrew Bogut. Bogut hit his first 9 shots from the field and finished 13 out of 14 with a career high 32 points. Carlos Delfino added 22 points for the Bucks, who return home to the Bradley Center tonight to host Philadelphia.
Before departing for a difficult game at Connecticut on Saturday, the Marquette Golden Eagles rolled to an easy 82-59 win over Rutgers at the Bradley Center on Tuesday night.
Darius Johnson-Odom scored 16 points and Maurice Acker hit 4 of 5 3-pointers to lead Marquette. The Golden Eagles (12-8, 3-5 Big East) went 9 of 17 from 3-point range and are shooting a Division I best 43.3 percent for the season from beyond the arc.
The Golden Eagles ended a 2-game slide with the win. They got some help from senior forward Lazar Hayward who had 12 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Those totals allowed Hayward to surpass 1600 points and 800 rebounds for his career. Golden Eagles coach Buzz Williams said Haywards numbers are real impressive.

Rutgers (9-11, 0-8 Big East) remains winless in Big East Conference play. The average margin of defeat for the Scarlet Knights is 16 points.
The WIAA’s Board of Control is taking up a WIAA proposal that would eliminate conference play in high school football in favor of a district format. But that proposal has drawn heavy opposition around the state and was voted against unanimously by the board’s Advisory Council, 17-0 yesterday.
There’s also been a lack of support shown in previous votes by the Sports Advisory Committee and the Coaches Association Advisory Committee.
Those against the plan are by far in the majority. If the Board of Control follows those recommendations, then they’ll vote the plan down today, or at least recommend that the WIAA come up with an alternative plan. If it passes, the District play would go into affect next season.
