After climbing to #14 in the ESPN/USA Today women’s top 25 coaches poll and 17th in the Associated Press top 25, the Green Bay Phoenix suffered a shocking defeat, falling to Loyola (Ill.) 65-63 on Thursday night in Chicago.
It’s Green Bay’s first loss (16-1, 5-1 Horizon League) of the season and ends a 34-game regular season win streak. Loyola’s win also snapped a 35-game losing streak against the Phoenix, dating back to 1995.
Julie Wojta scored 21 points for Green Bay, which went into the night as one of only three unbeaten teams in the country, joining top ranked Connecticut and No. 7 Nebraska.
The Phoenix cut their deficit to 63-61 with 12 seconds left, but the Ramblers Brittany Boeke hit a pair of free throws to seal the victory.
