Governor Jim Doyle didn’t get everything he wants from Monday’s “carp summit.” Governors from the Great Lakes states met with President Barack Obama and administration officials to discuss how to best meet the latest threat posed by an invasive species. Following Monday’s Asian Carp Summit at the White House, Doyle says he’s pleased by the attention the issue has finally received in Washington: the White House unveiled a 46-page Asian Carp Control Strategy Framework which includes more than $78 million in funding. Closing a loophole in gun sales law

State lawmakers are being urged to make it harder for those with a mental illness to purchase firearms.
Under federal law, a person who has been involuntarily committed for mental health reasons cannot purchase a gun. However, Wisconsin law does not require background checks for firearms sales to look for that information on the buyer’s record.

Badgers climb 5-spots in A.P. Top 25 poll

The Wisconsin men’s basketball team moved up 5-spots in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 Men’s College basketball poll.    The Badgers are at number-11 after wins last week over then #5 Michigan State and Michigan.
The Spartans fell from 5th to 10th, one spot in front of the Badgers in this weeks poll.

Brewers to honor Selig with statue at Miller Park

The Milwaukee Brewers will honor Major League Baseball Commissioner and former Brewers owner Allan “Bud” Selig with a statue at Miller Park’s Home Plate Plaza.
Selig’s statue will join those of Hank Aaron and Robin Yount, which were both unveiled on April 5, 2001, the first year of Miller Park’s existence.

Snow is coming

Wisconsin is about to get its first major snowstorm in over a month. The storm’s total in southeast Wisconsin is expected to surpass the region’s entire accumulation for the month of January. Meteorologist Chris McGinness of CBS Morning News in Milwaukee forecasts a foot of snow by the lake before the finale on Wednesday.
