020910paydayAssembly Democrats have announced a possible compromise on legislation that would regulate the payday loan industry in Wisconsin.

The bill would drop a proposed interest rate cap on payday loans, which the industry argued would make it nearly impossible for them to operate in the state. Instead, state Representative Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) says loans would be limited to either $600 or 35-percent of a borrower’s bi-weekly income, whichever is lower. The limit would include interest. Ambulance taken for brief joyride

Drunken skiers from Illinois do the darndest things. Dane County deputies were called to Tyrol Basin ski area near Mount Horeb Monday night after a 24 year old intoxicated Illinois man jumped into an ambulance and took it for a spin. Paroled killer still looking for home

A convicted murderer and sex offender is still residing in the Clark County Jail. It’s been a month-and-a-half since 40-year-old Gary Thiede was released from prison. Department of Corrections personnel are assisting him find a residence somewhere in Clark County.
In 1988, Thiede shot and killed 16-year-old Robert Aponte of Hatfield. It was a gruesome murder. [...]

MMA fighters worry about insurance mandate

The Governor has signed into law regulations on mixed martial arts (MMA) but some who advocated for the bill are criticizing a provision requiring fighters to have insurance. Madison fight trainer Mark Plavcan says, “it’s not smart to fight without insurance;” but he understands concerns about finding affordable coverage.
