Bucks start cold and finish cold in loss

The Milwaukee Bucks night got off to a shaky start, scoring just 9-points in the first quarter (4-25 FG’s) and then went cold again in the fourth quarter and fell to the Detroit Pistons 93-81 at the Bradley Center. 

Tayshaun Prince, Rodney Stuckey and Ben Gordon all scored 18 points for the Pistons.  Detroit trailed 64-62 to start the fourth quarter, then got hot.  The Pistons shot 65% in the 4th quarter and outscored the Bucks 29-19.

Brandon Jennings ad 18 points and Andrew Bogut 17 points and 18 rebounds, but guard Charlie Bell said the Bucks just didn’t come ready to play.

The Bucks (23-27) fell 4-games below .500 with one to play before the all-star break.  They’ll face the New Jersey Nets in New Jersey tonight.

Marquette women return home and win

The Marquette Golden Eagles took advantage of 22 South Florida turnovers to beat the Bulls 63-50 in women’s Big East action at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee.

Junior Angel Robinson scored 16 points and sophomore Jessica Pachko added 15 points and seven rebounds as the Golden Eagles put an end to their 2-game losing streak.

Badgers miss chance to move into Big Ten lead

6th ranked Purdue did its part, knocking off 10th ranked Michigan State 76-64.  But the 11th ranked Wisconsin Badgers couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain, falling to unranked Illinois 63-56 at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers saw their 18-game home court win streak come to an end, as well as their 51-game win streak against unranked Big Ten Teams under Bo Ryan at the Kohl Center.

Junior guard Demetri McCamey scored 27 points and junior center Mike Tisdale added 19 points for the Illini, who have won 5-straight games and now share the Big Ten lead with Michigan State.  The Badgers remain a game out.  McCamey and Tisdale combined for 46 of the Illini’s 63 points.  [Read more...]

Bill banning fake diplomas gets another hearing

A Wisconsin Senate committee holds a public hearing on a bill to make it a crime to sell fake college degrees, and make it illegal for buyers to use the bogus papers when looking for a job.

State Representative Kim Hixson (D-Whitewater) is co-author of the “diploma mill” legislation in the Assembly, which held a hearing on this issue last week. [Read more...]

Thurber suspended from Badger hockey team

Matt ThurberMatt Thurber (pictured), a sophomore with the Wisconsin men’s hockey team, has been suspended from the team after violating the UW Department of Athletics’ Student-Athlete Discipline Policy.

Thurber is suspended from competition and practice pending the availability of further information relating to his case.

During the suspension, Thurber will remain on official squad lists and may continue to receive support service in the sports medicine facility, the academic support center and the weight training room.
