Two Waupaca County men have pleaded innocent to killing a man in a hit-and-run drunk driving crash in 2004, and then lying about it to authorities. 25-year-old Rory Kuenzi is accused of hitting Kevin McCoy with his pick-up truck after both had left a nearby underage drinking party.
Bucks head into all-star break with a win
After a sluggish start, the Milwaukee Bucks picked up the pace in the second half and pulled away for a 97-77 win over the New Jersey Nets at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ.
Andrew Bogut scored just 6-points in the first half, but went to work in the second, scoring 16 points to help the Bucks win for the 24th (24-27) time this season. Irsan Ilyasova added 18 points for the Bucks, who reached Scott Skiles goal of an 8-4 record in their last 12-games before the all-star break.
The two teams played before a crowd that only filled the first few rows. With blizzard conditions outside, the announced attendance was 1,016.
New Jersey got 27 points from former Badger Devin Harris, but still lost for the 8th straight time and head into the break at 4-48 on the season.
Pavelski leads US Olympic hockey team
It wasn’t long ago that Plover, Wis. native Joe Pavelski was wreaking havoc on the United States Junior Hockey League as a member of the Waterloo Blackhawks.
Pavelski then moved on to play his college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, where he led the Badgers to the 2006 NCAA Championship. Pavelski played two seasons with the Badgers and led the team with 56 points (23g, 33a) in 43 games.
After the 2006 NCAA title, Pavelski took his game to the pro ranks and has increased his point production with the San Jose Sharks every season. The 2008-09 season saw Pavelski score 25 goals and dish out 34 assists for a total of 59 points. [Read more...]
Right to know bill provides corrections protections
A pair of state legislators believe being a correctional worker is a dangerous enough job without the risk of catching a serious disease from an inmate. State Senator Randy Hopper says he was amazed to learn that corrections officers in Wisconsin may request a disease test for an inmate if they get any of their bodily fluids on them, but not until then. “The only procedure for after is for HIV,” says Hopper. “Any other communicable disease, they cannot find out.” [Read more...]
Fond du Lac fraud uncovered
State and local investigators say a case involving alleged embezzlement by three employees of the Fond du Lac Management Information Systems Department is ongoing. The three are suspected of ordering items from an outside vendor and taking those items for personal use, then billing the city under fraudulent invoices for generic labor or services. Fond du Lac County District Attorney Daniel Kaminski says it went on for about a half decade and so far the cost of items taken could exceed over $100,000 in value. [Read more...]
