Return of WHEDA could help home sales

Wisconsin bankers and realtors say they’re happy to have WHEDA ready to lend again.

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority plans to offer loans again on March 1st, after not providing new financing for nearly 18-months. Wisconsin Mortgage Bankers Association President Steve Hansen says it’s good to have that option back on the table for first-time home buyers, since many potential buyers may not be able to consider a purchase without it. Plea in Lincoln County heroin overdose

An Antigo man admits causing a Tomahawk woman’s drug overdose last spring. Kevin Krugel pled guilty to giving Nicole Hedges the heroin that she overdosed on in May. Lincoln County Judge Glenn Hartley accepted the plea. Hartley said Krugel doesn’t pose a flight risk and will let him out on bond pending sentencing. But he says Krugel has to keep wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet and comply with a home curfew. [Read more...]

Grieving mom wants more drug education in schools

Young kids don’t know enough about the dangers when it comes to prescription drugs. That’s the feeling of Jenny Bethel in Edgerton. The Rock County mother found her 13 year old son Alex, dead on Tuesday morning this week, from what’s believed to be an overdose of oxycontin. [Read more...]
