Kohl says civility and collaboration needed to advance health care (AUDIO)

President Barack Obama is expected to renew his push for health care reform next week, and a Wisconsin Senator says both sides of the aisle need to be involved. “I think the most important thing that could happen is that there’s a spirit of collaboration. Lifting the cap on virtual schools

A state lawmaker says an enrollment cap for virtual schools needs to be removed.

The cap was part of a 2007 state law authorizing the distance learning programs, which allow students to take classes from home. It limits enrollment to 5,250 students. With over 3,600 students currently enrolled and 21-percent growth a year, state Representative Brett Davis (R-Oregon) predicts they’ll hit that limit within the next two years. [Read more...]

Geoffrion is National Player of the Week

Wisconsin Badger senior tri-captain Blake Geoffrion has been given the National Player of the Week honor by Inside College Hockey.

Geoffrion tallied 7-points in a pair of wins for the 3rd ranked Badgers in their 2-game series sweep over Minnesota State. 

Geoffrion was also given the WCHA’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week award earlier this week.

Geoffrion and the Badgers (18-7-4, 13-6-3 WCHA) currently stand in a
3rd place tie in the WCHA.  The Badgers host 4th ranked St. Cloud State in a 2-game weekend series starting tonight at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Tiger apologizes over and over and over

Tiger Woods told a national audience today that he was sorry for all the wrong he did.  His message today, could have delivered a month or more ago.  He apologized to his wife and children, although none of them were on hand to see or hear it.  He apologized to his sponsors and the rest of the carefully selected guests that were on hand to show their support. 

Woods showed anger towards those that fabricated stories about his wife abusing him after finding out about the extra-marital affairs that Tiger had taken part in.  He admitted his indiscretions over and over and then repeatedly asked for forgiveness. [Read more...]

Brother that’s a big banner (VIDEO)

No UW Music School. Mobilize at BrothersBar.com. The words are hard to miss on a building-sized banner hung from the side of a downtown Madison tavern. The University of Wisconsin wants to take the land the bar sits on, at the corner of University Avenue and Lake Street, for a new music school.

 

The UW is employing emanant domain to obtain the property for the $43 million dollar project, but the bar owners have filed suit to stop that. A trial is set for April.
