Democrats from rural Wisconsin are pledging to assist rural schools. They’ve unveiled a package of bills aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by rural districts, including declining enrollments and increased travel costs. Twisted trail leads to prison

“Tony the Twister” is headed to prison. Anthony Stelter was a childrens entertainer in Dane County. The 41 year-old Stelter did magic tricks and worked with balloons. And, he sexually assaulted three teenage girls between 2004 and 2008. Wednesday, Stelter was sentenced to 41 and a half years in prison.
Dane County Judge Patrick Fiedler called Steleter, who performed under the name “Tony the Twister,” evil. In adddition to the sexual assault convictions, Stelter was also accused of trying to have the prosecutor in the case and a Town of Madison Police detective killed. Prosecutors said Stelter tried to hire a hit man from the Dane County jail, but another inmate told authorities of the plot.

WIAC Basketbal Tournaments Continue

Tonight is the semi-finals of the 6-team WIAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments. The women games are 6pm tips with the men to follow.
In the men’s draw, top-seeded Whitewater hosts Superior. Whitewater swept the season series 2-0. The other semi-final has Stevens Point playing host to Stout. The Pointers and Blue Devils split the season series each winning at home. Whitewater is ranked 8th in the country and Point 9th according to D3Hoops.com.
#1 Whitewater receives a visit from Eau Claire in the Women’s bracket. The two teams split the season series with each team earning a home win. The Stevens Point women host Stout in the other semi-final. They also split the season series but the victories went to the road teams.
Badgers face Hoosiers tonight

On February 13th, the Basketball Badgers took out their frustrations from a home loss to Illinois on a depleted Indiana team. The end result was a 83-55 Wisconsin win and long trip back to Bloomington for the Hoosiers.
Tonight, the 17th ranked Badgers (20-7, 10-5) make that trip to Bloomington to face Indiana (9-17, 3-11). Badger Assistant Coach Gary Close knows Indiana will be a different team tonight…
Packers tag Ryan Pickett

The Green Bay Packers have decided not to let DT Ryan Pickett test the murky free agent waters. Pickett received the franchise tag from General Manager Ted Thompson Wednesday.
By tagging Pickett, the Packers will have to pay him the average of the top five salaries at the defensive tackle position in the NFL. That figure comes out to $7.003 million for one-year. The two sides could still work on a long-term deal keeping Pickett in Green Bay past 2010. Pickett earned $2.975 million in 2009.
