Million dollar ticket now a worthless piece of paper

The window has closed on a chance to redeem a Wisconsin lottery ticket worth a million dollars. The ticket was purchased in Caledonia on August 26th and the 180 days to claim the money has passed. Wisconsin Lottery Spokesman Andrew Bohage can only speculate why the ticket holder did not step forward.

Farmer’s share for food remains same

Some attention this week is on farmers and the consumers of their product.

Although we have seen food prices rise and fall over the past two years, Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation spokesman Casey Langan says the farmer’s share of the food dollar remains constant.

“What we call the farmers share is about 19 cents for every dollar spent on food in grocery stores and restaurants.” [Read more...]

Lawmaker calls for DNR split

A state lawmaker says he’s worried about the “behemoth” size of the Department of Natural Resources.

State Representative Mike Huebsch (R-West Salem) is sponsoring a bill that would split up the agency, creating two new departments. The Department of Natural Resources would be charged with regulating hunting, trapping, and other outdoor activities. The Department of Environmental Quality would be charged with controlling policies on air and water quality, along with zoning issues. [Read more...]

Dems don’t appear to have votes for veto override

A Republican state lawmaker says Assembly Democrats don’t have the votes to override a veto by their governor. Assembly Democrats will need Republican support, in order to override Governor Jim Doyle’s veto of a bill which would allow the Natural Resources Board to appoint the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources. Doyle says Obama health insurance reform will help WI families

Governor Jim Doyle is praising the White House effort to advance health care reform. In a conference call from Washington, Doyle touted what he says is a White House health insurance reform plan which will help Wisconsin families. “Normal people . . . earning sixty, seventy thousand dollars with a couple of kids, to go out and try to purchase health insurance on your own is nearly impossible,” Doyle said. “This bill would dramatically help those families.” [Read more...]
