Truancy causes unbeaten team to forfeit games
The top-ranked and currently unbeaten state Division-1 boys basketball team will likely be tagged with some losses going into the upcoming tournament by an off the court issue involving truancy. An announcement is expected soon on the number of games the Racine Park High School boys’ varsity basketball team may have to forfeit as the result of an investigation into violations of the district’s Athletic Code relating to player truancy.
Millions overspent on school construction project
When Janesville voters approved a $70.8 million referendum in 2006 it was the largest school referendum in the state. The cost of the Janesville’s High School referendum construction went $3.6 million above the approved amounts. Now the school board wants answers.
Grade school goes on lockdown
A Kenosha elementary school went on lockdown with a student’s report of an armed man in a mask. A 2nd grader’s claim, at the Edward Bain School of Language Arts, led to Kenosha Police blanketed the campus and securing the almost 800 students and 95 staffers, including evacuation to a nearby high school. The grade schoolers were either released to parents or bussed directly home from the high school site. A room-by-room search produced nothing.
Former Brewer looking forward to a fresh start
The 2009 season was not a memorable one for former Brewer short stop J.J Hardy. After an all-star campaign in 2007 and a solid 2008, Hardy saw his numbers decline in 2009 earning him a trip back to the minors. In 2010, Hardy will sport some new threads.
November 6th, 2009 the Milwaukee Brewers sent Hardy to the Minnesota Twins for OF Carlos Gomez. After months of trade speculation, Hardy was happy to see a deal come to fruition.
