A quick start helped propel Team Canada to a 2-0 victory over Team U.S in the Women’s Ice Hockey Gold Medal Game of the Vancouver Olympics Thursday. Canada has now struck gold in each of the last three Olympics. The U.S has gone Silver-Bronze-Silver over that stretch.
As for the Badgers (current and former) in the game; Carla MacLeod picked up her second straight gold for Canada with teammate Meaghan Mikkelson earning her first. Six Badgers take home silver for the U.S in their first Olympics: Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight, Erika Lawler Jessie Vetter, Kerry Weiland and Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej. Molly Engstrom will add the silver to her 2006 bronze medal in the trophy case.
Meghan Duggan and Hilary Knight will be back with Wisconsin next season along with Head Coach Mark Johnson.
The Wisconsin Women’s team opens up the WCHA Tournament tonight at the Eagle’s Nest with Ohio State. That is a best-of-three series. Puck drops tonight at 7 PM. The Series will run through Sunday if necessary.
