Senate approves restrictions on ticket sales

The state Senate has approved legislation that targets aggressive ticket re-sellers outside sporting venues.

The bill allows stadiums or local governments to set up special re-sale zones outside of a venue. State Senator Jim Sullivan (D-Wauwatosa) says the measure is aimed at stopping professional sellers from bothering fans as they’re walking to an event. He says there have been situations outside Miller Park, which requested the bill, where people have been pulled out of line or sellers have climbed on board tour buses. [Read more...]

Wood wants expulsion dropped

A state lawmaker facing three DUI charges has written a resolution asking that efforts to expel him be dropped. Noting that no previous lawmakers, from the leaders involved in the caucus scandal to others who’ve been convicted of drunk driving, have ever faced expulsion, state Representative Jeff Wood, an independent from Bloomer, is asking that he not be held to a different standard than partisan legislators, and that no further action be taken against him by a special committee. Talgo chooses Milwaukee for train building site

Talgo decides to locate its U.S. high-speed passenger rail manufacturing and assembly facility in Milwaukee.

Governor Jim Doyle says that will create 125 direct jobs in Wisconsin and about 450 indirect jobs by way of vendors throughout the Midwest. Spain-based Talgo CEO and President Antonio Perez says careful consideration was put into choosing the former Tower Automotive plant, which is being refurbished for this purpose.

Fighters gather for a pow-wow

Mixed martial arts (MMA) industry insiders had their chance to chime in on upcoming sanctioning. The state Department of Regulation and Licensing held a town hall meeting Tuesday to work out the details of the new law. “We really want to involve the industry,” said DRL Executive Assistant Hector Colon, who is commissioner of the sport.

Horizon League honors announced

UW-Green Bay Phoenix point guard Rahmon Fletcher was named to the All Horizon League first team. 

Butler head coach Brad Stevens was named the Coach of the Year and Butler’s Gordon Hayward was named the Horizon League Player of the Year.

UW-Milwaukee guard Ricky Franklin received second team All-Horizon League honors.

The Horizon League playoffs start tonight.  Green Bay plays host to Youngstown State and Milwaukee will host Illinois-Chicago.
