Teens arrested in overdose death

Two Rock County teens have been arrested in connection with a fatal prescription drug overdose.

A 13-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl, both from Edgerton, are now in juvenile detention after a toxicology report showed 13-year-old Alex Aiken from the town of Milton did die last month as a result of an overdose of Oxycontin. [Read more...]

Hoping for an encore of film tax credits

A group that promotes the production of movies in Wisconsin is eyeing 2011 as a year to bring back film tax credits. The tax credits were heralded as a bi-partisan victory in the legislature which, among other things, brought production of the blockbuster “Public Enemies” to Wisconsin.

Badger basketball time change

Tip-off for the Badgers regular-season finale at Illinois on Sunday has changed from an 11am tip-off to a 1pm start time.  The game will be televised by ESPN.

The 15th ranked Badgers are 22-7 and looking for their 4th straight win and 4th straight win in a regular season finale. 

A win would be the 13th in the Big Ten for the Badgers.  It would be just the 3rd time in franchise history they’d reach that total in the Big Ten.

Green Bay Notre Dame sweeps hockey awards

Green Bay Notre Dame coach Cory McCracken and top player Max McCormick have been named the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association Coach and Player of the Year.

McCracken guided his Tritons to a 26-1 record and their first state tournament appearance.  McCormick has tallied to 34 goals and 37 assists, including 3 game winners.

Notre Dame is playing in tonight’s WIAA quarterfinals, squaring off against Madison Edgewood at 7:15 tonight.

Earlier today, Eau Claire Memorial opened the tournament with a 4-2 win over Superior.

State’s Race to the Top application rejected

Wisconsin has been knocked out of the running in its first try for federal Race to the Top education funding.

The state’s application is not on the list of finalists for the first round of grants under the $4.5 billion program. Governor Jim Doyle says the state had a strong proposal, but he believes the failure to pass reforms for the Milwaukee Public School system hurt our chances. [Read more...]
