Brewers start today!

Jeff SuppanAfter an intrasquad scrimmage on Wednesday, the Milwaukee Brewers open Cactus League play today.  The Brewers face the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale.

Jeff Suppan faces Barry Zito in the pitching match-up.

Big Ten women’s tournament tips off today

The women’s Big Ten Conference tournament tips off in Indianapolis with first round games today.

Michigan vs. Northwestern 11 a.m.
Penn State vs. Minnesota  1:30 a.m.
Indiana vs. Illinois  4:00 p.m.

The Badger women won’t see their first action until the quarterfinals on Friday night against Purdue at 7:30 p.m.

Diener signs with Portland

After being released by the Indiana Pacers on Monday, former Marquette point guard Travis Diener signed for the rest of the season with the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers.

The Blazers needed some backup help at point guard after trading veteran Steve Blake.

It’s a good move for Diener, who goes from a non-playoff team (Indiana) to a contender (Portland).

Diener only expects to finish the season in Portland.  He becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

Bucks struggle, yet still beat Washington

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Scott Skiles said it wasn’t one of his teams better efforts last night, but they still beat the Washington Wizards 100-87 at the Bradley Center on Wednesday night.

It was far from a stellar effort by the Bucks and coach Scott Skiles said they need to do better.

Ride fit for “a King” is headed to Wisconsin

Elvis Presley considered the Zippin Pippin his favorite roller coaster. He used to the shut down the Memphis amusement park where it was located so he and his friends could enjoy the ride. The city of Green Bay has approved buying the ride and moving it Bay Beach Park. Mayor Jim Schmitt expects Elvis fans will make a special trip to his city.
