University School raps up state hockey championship

University School started out the high school hockey season losing their first six games.  When the season came to an end on Saturday, the Wildcats were champions.

University School scored the first three goals and then held off top ranked Wausau West to win their second WIAA championship, 5-3 over the Warriors. 

University School (18-7-3) finished the season with a 16-game unbeaten streak (15-0-1).  The Warriors ended their season with a runner-up finish and a 27-2-1 record.

River Falls Co-op won the girls title earlier in the day, downing Green Bay East Co-op 5-2.  Green Bay made the state championship game in their very first year on the ice.

Hayward and Butler earn Big East honors

The Big East Conference is out with its post-season teams.  Marquette’s Lazar Hayward was named second team all-Big East and teammate Jimmy Butler received honorable mention.

Hayward averaged 18 points and 7.8 rebounds per game this season, ranking 6th in scoring and 7th in rebounding in the Big East.  He was a pre-season pick for All-Big East.

Bucks move into 5th spot in Eastern Conference

The Milwaukee Bucks had the day off on Sunday, but they moved into the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff chase after Toronto fell to Philadelphia 114-101 on Sunday in Toronto.

The Raptors have dropped 5 of their last 6, while the Bucks have won three in a row, coming off of their 92-85 win over Cleveland on Saturday night at the Bradley Center.  The Bucks (33-29) have won 9 of their last 10 games.  They have a half-game lead on Toronto and own the head to head tie breaker as well.

Scott Skiles’ Bucks return to action Tuesday night by hosting Boston and then play a home game against Utah on Friday.

Bill which bans serving kids in taverns won’t advance

It Looks as if Wisconsin kids will still be allowed to hoist a beer down at the local, as long as they’re with mom and dad. State Senator Judy Robson is author of legislation to prohibit kids under age eighteen from drinking in taverns with their parents, something that’s allowed under current law, if the individual tavern allows. “I was optimistic, it had bipartisan support getting out of committee,” said Robson. “We only have a few days left, and I know that the leader does not like the bill.” [Read more...]

Packers sign Clifton, lose Kampman to Jaguars

Chad CliftonThe Packers went 1 for 2 on the weekend with regards to their own free agents.  They confirmed the resigning of left tackle Chad Clifton (right).  The deal is worth $20-million over three years.

But the Packers found out Sunday that they have lost defensive star Aaron Kampman to the Jacksonville Jaguars.  [Read more...]
