Use of e-file continues to grow

With a little less than a month to go before the filing deadline, Department of Revenue Secretary Roger Ervin says nearly one million state tax returns have come through Wisconsin’s electronic filing system this year.

In 2009, about 70-percent of all returns were done using e-file. Ervin says there hoping to see about four or five percent growth in the number this year. [Read more...]

Mentoring group wants more federal dollars

President Obama has challenged the US to lead the world in college graduates by 2020. A non-profit group that handles federal education programs says to make that possible thousands of low, income first-generation and disabled students will have to seek higher learning.

Health reform may give domestic victims more help

As President Obama continues to push for a final agreement on a health care overhaul, violence advocates are applauding parts of the bill. Patti Seger, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Coalition against Domestic Violence, says in what appears to be the final legislation, additional screening and counseling will be available for victims. This includes a focus on treatment of domestic violence and prevention in the American Indian community.

Hockey Badgers open WCHA playoffs

The 3rd ranked Wisconsin hockey team (22-9-4) opens the WCHA Playoffs against Alaska Anchorage (11-21-2) at the Kohl Center tonight.

The Badgers completed a series sweep against the Seawolves with 6-2 and
5-1 wins in mid-November at the Kohl Center. 

The Badgers own a six-game winning streak over UAA and holds a 10-game unbeaten streak against the Seawolves (9-0-1).  The Badgers are 18-2-1 over the last 21 games against Anchorage and have won the last 9 games in the series played in Madison. [Read more...]

Brewers fall twice on Thursday

The Milwaukee Brewers dropped a pair of Cactus League baseball games on Thursday, falling to the Reds 3-1 and the Oakland A’s 7-3. 

In the Cincinnati game, Joey Votto homered for his first hit of the spring to lead the Reds to the victory.  Votto’s solo shot came off of Brewers lefty Chris Capuano, who is trying to make a comeback from reconstructive elbow surgery.  Capuano gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in 2 1/3 innings.  [Read more...]
