Badgers sweep Anchorage, on to WCHA Final 5

The University of Wisconsin made quick work of Alaska-Anchorage this weekend, sweeping the first two games in the best 2 of 3 series.  The Badgers finished off the weekend with a 7-2 win over the Seawolves on Saturday night at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers (24-9-4) scored the last five goals of the game after Anchorage scored back to back goals to tie the game 2-2 in the second period.  Aaron Bendickson had 2 goals and Michael Davies and Justin Schultz also scored during that late stretch as Wisconsin advanced to the WCHA‘s Final Five in St. Paul next week.

Blake Geoffrion also had two goals and an assist and Derek Stepan had a goal and two assists for the Badgers.

St. Norbert College going back to Frozen Four

St. Norbert College held on for a 3-1 win over Gustavus Adolphus College in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Division 3 hockey tournament. 

St. Norbert had a slim 2 to 1 lead when Gustavus pulled their goaltender with just over a minute to play.  The Green Knights Brandon Longley scored into the empty net to seal the 3-1 victory.

St. Norbert College (23-3-3) travels to Lake Placid, N.Y. and face Oswego State in Friday’s national semifinals.  It will be the Green Knights sixth appearance in the last eight years at the Frozen Four.  The game will be played at Herb Brooks Arena, site of the 1980 U.S. Olympic team’s “Miracle on Ice”.

The 3rd ranked Green Knights improved to 72-8-4 all-time against teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The win was also the 400th in St. Norbert program history.
