No Asian carp netted

A month long netting operation has turned up no Asian carp on Chicago’s main shipping canal near Lake Michigan. The search is part of the federal government’s $78.5 million plan to stop the invasive fish with the huge appetite from taking over the Great Lakes. The netting was ordered after DNA tests showed evidence of the bloated carp at several spots beyond the electronic barrier on Chicago’s main canal that’s meant to keep the fish at bay.

Hockey Badgers to face St. Cloud State in Final Five

The second-seeded Wisconsin men’s hockey team (24-9-4) moves into the semifinals of the WCHAFrozen Five and will face 3rd-seeded St. Cloud State (22-12-5) on Friday at 2pm at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The Badgers were the first team to advance to the Final Five, posting 4-1 and 7-2 victories over Alaska Anchorage last Friday and Saturday at the Kohl Center. [Read more...]

Weekend sees toddler death, adult shooting

Racine Police have been busy the last few days. It started with the reckless homicide arrest of a 40-year old man for the battery-related death of his 24-year-old girlfriend’s 26-month-old son. The couple brought the unconscious boy to the emergency room of the hospital in Racine, but he could not be revived. The mother was arrested for THC possession and a retail theft commitment.

Times set for NCAA Tournament games

The times are out for first round games in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

The Marquette Golden Eagles will open play in the East Region against Washington in San Jose, California at 6:20pm Thursday evening.  The winner will face the winner of the New Mexico vs. Montana game on Saturday.

The Wisconsin Badgers will tip off on Friday afternoon at 1:55 against Wofford.  The winner faces the winner of the Temple vs. Cornell game on Sunday.

If Marquette and Wisconsin can both win three games, they would square off in an Elite 8 game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York.

Game times are also set for the Midwest Regional in Milwaukee at the Bradley Center on Friday.

  1:55am  Pittsburgh vs. Oakland
  6:15pm  Oklahoma State vs. Georgia Tech
  8:45pm  Ohio State vs. UC Santa Barbara

The winners advance to Sunday action at the Bradley Center.

Bucks extend win streak to 6

After wins over NBA powers Cleveland, Boston and Utah, Sunday’s home game against Indiana figured to be an easy one for the Milwaukee Bucks.  Unfortunately it never seems to work out that way.

The Bucks pulled out a 98-94 win, but Scott Skiles team said his team didn’t close out well and had to fight off a Pacer 4th quarter rally.
