Delfino is day to day for Bucks

X-rays on the head and neck of Bucks forward Carlos Delfino turned up negative and he’s considered day-to-day.  Delfino was taken off the court from Friday night’s game on a stretcher.

Delfino was hurt late in the first half of Milwaukee’s 87-74 loss to the Miami Heat on Friday night.  He was motionless for nearly 10 minutes while paramedics turned him over and strapped him to a back board.

Delfino has been a big part of the Bucks resurgence during the second half of the season.

Gamblers wrap up Anderson Cup title

Green Bay’s 4-3 shootout victory over the Fargo Force on Saturday night earned the Gamblers their second straight Anderson Cup for the regular-season title in the United States Hockey League.

The Gamblers (43-10-5) finished the night with a 5-point lead on the Omaha Lancers with two games left to play in the regular season.

Badgers advance to 11th Frozen Four

John Mitchell scored a pair of goals to lead the Wisconsin Badger Hockey team to a 5-3 win over St. Cloud State in the West Regional Final in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday night.

The Badgers (27-10-4) will face East Regional Champion Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the national semifinals on April 8 at Ford Field in Detroit.

Mitchell, Blake Geoffrion and Jake Gardner scored first period goals for the Badgers.  Aaron Bendickson also scored for Wisconsin and Scott Gudmandson made 26 saves for the Badgers, who are making their first Frozen Four appearance since winning the 2006 title at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.  [Read more...]

Pius wins first WIAA girls basketball title

Milwaukee Pius captured its first WIAA Girls State basketball championship by knocking off DePere 34-23 in the Division 1  title game on Saturday night at the Kohl Center.

Pius held DePere to just 10 points in the second half and the Redbirds 23 total points goes down as the lowest ever in a state title game in any division.  DePere shot just 26% for the game and 1 for 16 on 3′s.

The Lady Popes wrap up the season with a 26-2 record.  DePere ends with the same 26-2 mark. [Read more...]
