An industrial discount on electricity is not fair to other utility customers, according to a ratepayers group. The state Public Service Commission voted this week to allow Wisconsin Power & Light to offer rate discounts to large industrial customers. Racine looks to settle on discrimination claim
City leaders in Racine look to settle a job discrimination complaint from the former administrative assistant to the former mayor. The $50,000 recommended settlement includes compensatory damages for what documents say was “the result of physical contact” Sandra Tingle alleged by former Mayor Gary Becker in the workplace, “but of which the city denies any knowledge.”
Excluding drugs from markup may be bad medicine
The state’s unfair sales act is in place to protect from predatory pricing where generally larger retailers attempt to undercut their competition. The Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin questions why prescription drugs should be treated differently that other merchandise that is covered. At a Senate Committee on Public Health hearing Thursday, Tom Engels with the PSW testified against a bill that would exclude prescriptions.
Zimmerman suspect still being sought
It will be 2 years Friday since UW Madison student Brittany Zimmermann was murdered in her off-campus apartment, and Madison Police are still looking for her killer. Investigators and Zimmermann’s family believe someone knows who did it, and that has brought a renewed plea by her parents for donations to a reward fund. There’s still a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the Zimmermann case.
Also unsolved is the July 2007 murder of UW Whitewater student Kelly Nolan, last seen on State Street in Madison, weeks before her body was found in the town of Dunn.

Geoffrion could be the first Badger to win Hobey Baker
The next time a Wisconsin Badger hockey player wins the Hobey Baker Award, it’ll be the first.
Wisconsin senior forward Blake Geoffrion was among the three finalists for the 2010 Hobey Baker Award, honoring college hockey’s top player. Geoffrion said it’s hard to believe hat no Badger has ever won the award.

UW defenseman Brendan Smith was one of 10 finalists for the award, but he didn’t stay on the list that was reduced to 3.
The other finalists are: Bobby Butler, a senior forward from New Hampshire and Gustav Nyquist, a sophomore forward from Maine.
The 2010 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced on April 9th at the Frozen Four at Ford Field in Detroit.
