Mixed reaction to new fuel standards

Wisconsin auto dealers are not surprised by a decision to speed up new fuel efficiency standards for vehicles, but their impact on car prices could be hard to predict.

New federal guidelines rolled out Thursday will require all vehicles sold in the US to average 35 miles per gallon by the year 2016, advancing the timetable for making trucks more fuel efficient. Chris Snyder with the Wisconsin Auto and Truck Dealers Association says including trucks and SUVs in the goal will require some scrambling for auto makers to reach that benchmark. Eaves up for coach of the year

Mike EavesWisconsin Badger men’s hockey coach Mike Eaves is one of 10 finalists for college hockey’s Coach of the Year.

The winner of the 2010 Spencer Penrose award will be announced at the Frozen Four next week.

Wisconsin is set to face Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) in the Frozen Four semifinals on Thursday afternoon at Ford Field in Detroit.  It’s the Badgers 11th trip to the Frozen Four.  They’ve won 6-times, including 2 in Detroit.

R.I.T. is just in its 5th season as a Division 1 program will be making its first ever trip to the Frozen Four.

Havner signs and reports to Green Bay

Green Bay Packers tight end Spencer Havner, recovering from a broken shoulder bone suffered in a motorcycle accident last month in California, signed his exclusive rights free agent tender this week.  In doing so, Havner began taking part in the Packers off-season conditioning program this week.

Havner was arrested by Nevada County police on suspicion of driving under the influence, but the district attorney’s office has yet to file charges.

Bucks in Charlotte tonight

The Milwaukee Bucks magic number to clinch their first playoff spot is 3 entering tonight’s game at Charlotte against the Bobcats.  Any combination of Bucks victories or Chicago Bull defeats totaling three will put the Bucks in the playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Following tonight’s game, the Bucks return home to host the Phoenix Suns at the Bradley Center on Saturday night.

Jennings wins rookie award, again!

Milwaukee Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings has been named the NBA’s Eastern Conference rookie of the month for the fourth time this season.

Jennings was named the top rookie for the month of March yesterday, adding to his previous honors in November, December and January.

Jennings helped lead the Bucks to a 11-4 record in the month of March, averaging 14.1 points, 5.1 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals a game.  He also sank a Bucks record 8 three-pointers in a March 19th overtime win over Sacramento.
