Nelson ties NBA coaching milestone

Former Milwaukee Bucks coach Don Nelson tied Lenny Wilkens for the most wins by an NBA coach when the Golden State Warriors held off Toronto 113-112.

The victory was the 1,332nd for Nelson, who can pass Wilkens when Golden State plays at Washington tomorrow night.

Nelson spent 11 seasons as the head coach of the Bucks, compiling a
540-344 regular season mark and a 42-46 playoff record.  His regular season winning percentage of .611 ranks #1 in Bucks history.

Bucks will have to deal without Bogut

Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut is out indefinitely with a broken hand, dislocated elbow and sprained wrist. 

Bogut was hurt Saturday night when he crashed to the court after dunking a ball in the teams win over the Phoenix Suns. 

The Bucks chances of making any kind of an impact in the upcoming Eastern Conference playoffs were severely damaged.  He is expected to undergo surgery and will miss the postseason.  Bogut averaged 15.9-points, 10 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots a game.  His 175 blocked shots were the most by a Bucks player since Alton Lister had 177 during the 1982-83 season. WIAC schools favor well in NCAA Directors Cup Standings

Three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools are ranked in the top 10 of the 2009-2010 NCAA Division III Learfield Sports Directors Cup Standings following the winter sports season. 

UW-Stevens Point leads the WIAC contingent with a fourth-place standing after accumulating 515.50 points.  UW-La Crosse is seventh with 471.75 points and UW-Whitewater 10th with 422.25 points. 

Williams College (Mass.) leads this years standings with 896.75 points.

The standings recognize the best NCAA Division III overall athletics programs in the country. 

The Learfield Sports Directors Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 18 sports, both men’s and women’s.

Another push for clean energy legislation

Just how much potential does Wisconsin have to harness energy from the sun?

A lot, according to a new report from Wisconsin Environment. The group’s state director Dan Kohler says despite the cold weather climate, the Badger State actually has more sun light than the world’s leader in solar power.

“The world’s leader in solar energy is Germany. Wisconsin actually has a climate better suited to solar power than Germany. We receive 20% more sunlight than Germany does.” [Read more...]

Gallardo makes his first opening day start

Yovani GallardoThe Milwaukee Brewers open the 2010 baseball season with the roof open at Miller Park today.  Manager Ken Macha will give the ball to right hander Yovani Gallardo, which will be the 24 year old’s first career opening day assignment.

The Brewers will be facing a Rockies team that many predict will win the NL West this season.  The two clubs represent the last two National League wild-card teams.  The Brewers in 2008 and the Rockies in 2009.

The Brewers would like to just start with a win today.  They lost all six games to the Rockies last season.

The Brewers will have three new faces in the starting lineup from a year ago.  Gregg Zaun takes over behind the plate.  Carlos Gomez is the new center fielder and Alcides Escobar mans the shortstop position. 

Also, Rickie Weeks returns to the starting lineup at second base after missing most of last season due to injury.
