UW Regents approve new tuition policy

The UW Board of Regents is setting new guidelines for approving special tuition hikes.  The Board on Friday approved changes to how requests for differential tuition increases are reviewed. UW System spokesman Dave Giroux says Regents want to stress the importance of having student input on efforts to launch new initiatives on a specific campus. [Read more...]

Packers release preseason dates & times

The Green Bay Packers finalized dates and times for their 2010 preseason schedule today.

     Sat. Aug. 14      CLEVELAND BROWNS at Green Bay           7pm
     Sat. Aug. 21      at Seattle Seahawks                                            9pm
     Thur. Aug. 26  INDIANAPOLIS COLTS at Green Bay         7pm
     Thur. Sept. 2    at Kansas City                                                       7pm

The regular season schedule is expected to be released by the NFL soon.

Chomsky on Obama, talk radio and tea party

In a lifetime that spans the Great Depression and the Vietnam War, Noam Chomsky, 81, says he’s never seen such a climate of distrust in the US. Chomsky claims this distrust is giving rise to the tea party movement which he says is based on real concerns of unemployment and manufacturing jobs vanishing.  In calling the tea party movement the “most organized” of all protesting groups he says important question to ask is, “Why are these justly angry people being mobilized by the extreme right?” [Read more...]

UW-Green Bay starts finalist interviews today

Greg GardWisconsin associate head coach Greg Gard is among five finalists for the head coaching position at UW-Green Bay and is expected to interview again with Green Bay athletic director Ken Bothof in Green Bay today. 

Joining Gard in the final interview process are UWGB assistant Brian Wardle, St. Norbert College coach Gary Grzesk, Missouri State assistant coach Jon Harris and Saint Louis associated head coach Porter Moser.

After Gard’s interview today, the remainder of the sessions will take place next week.

Thursday was a good day to go low at the Masters

Thirty-0ne golfers broke par on the first day of the Masters at Augusta.  But none of the 31 had the last names of Kelly or Stricker. 

Madison’s Jerry Kelly shot an even par 72 and Steve Stricker struggled with a 1-over par 73, on a day that a good score could be had.

50-year old Fred Couples fired a 6-under par 66 to take a 1-shot lead into today’s second round.  60-year old Tom Watson had his best round at the Masters in well over a decade when he joined a group of others at 5-under par 67. [Read more...]
